Gyökeres with the brace as Arsenal cruise past Atletico Madrid at Emirates

Premier League club, Arsenal, hit the back of the net four (4) times at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday 21 October, 2025 as they walloped La Liga club, Atletico Madrid, to maintain their perfect start to the League Phase of the Uefa Champions League 2025/26.

Mikel Arteta’s Gunners kicked off the clash quickly and Eberechi Eze’s deflected shot hit the bar in the first 45 minutes, while Atletico’s Julian Alvarez nearly caught out David Raya with a long-range effort while the goalkeeper was left helpless outside his area.

The remainder of the first half was tight that it ended without a goal.

The questions was, where will the first goal come from? And twelve (12) minutes after the second half started, defender Gabriel Magalhaes responded for Arsenal when he headed in Declan Rice’ free-kick.

Magalhaes’ goal was the beginning of suffering for their Spanish visitors as striker, Gabriel Martinelli, added the second in the 64th minute with a curled shot after a driving run from Myles Lewis-Skelly.

In the 67th minute, former Crystal Palace player, Eze, turned provider for Swedish striker, Vikyor Gyökeres, who made it three (3) to end his seven-game Arsenal goal drought.

The Sweden International then added his second and fourth for the home side in the 70th minute, converting Magalhaes’ assist.

The outcome means Arsenal have emerge victorious in their opening three (3) games of the competition and have still yet to concede a goal.

For his beautiful contribution to Arsenal’s stunning home win, Gyökeres was voted Player Of The Match.
