VP Shettima departs Nigeria for UNGA 80 in New York

Vice President, Kashim Shettima, has departed Abuja, Nigeria to take part in the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80) in the city of New York, United States (US).

UNGA 80 is scheduled to commence on Monday 22 September to Sunday 28 September, 2025.

Shettima, who is standing for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is expected to deliver “Nigeria’s national statement”, as well as, join other top personalities at the UN High-level General Debates, alongside other programmes.

According to the official X account of the Vice President: “Vice President @KashimSM has departed Abuja, Nigeria, to attend the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (#UNGA80), holding in New York, United States of America, from Monday, September 22, to Sunday, September 28, 2025.

“Senator @KashimSM, who is representing President @officialABAT, GCFR, at the global event, will deliver Nigeria’s national statement and join other dignitaries at the UN High-Level General Debates, among other side events.

“The Vice President will also announce Nigeria’s new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement at this year’s UN special event on climate.”
