Kane scores twice as Bayern Munich ease to 3-1 victory over Chelsea

Harry Kane, England striker, bagged a brace as Bayern Munich defeated Chelsea in the Uefa Champions League 2025/26 League Phase opener at Allianz Arena on Wednesday 17 September, 2025.

English defender, Trevor Chalobah, had gifted Vincent Kompany’s Bayern the first goal in the 20th minute after scoring in his own net before Kane doubled the lead in the 27th minute from the penalty spot.

On his 100th appearance in all competitions for Chelsea, Cole Palmer pulled one back for Enzo Maresca’s Blues in the 29th minute, assisted by Malo Gusto.

Chelsea are returning to the Uefa Champions League for the first time since the 2022-23 season.

Frenchman, Michael Olise, and Kane missed good chances, but, the former Tottenham Hotspur goal machine sealed all three (3) points for the Bavarian in the 63rd minute.

Chelsea scored their second late, in the 89th minute, through Palmer, however, it was struck out by Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for a narrow offside.

The game was 39-year old Manuel Neuer, Bayern Munich goalkeeper’s 151st in the Champions League.

Bayern Munich forward, Harry Kane, carted the Most Valuable Player (MVP) accolade following his beautiful performance for the German Bundesliga 2024/25 Kings, scoring a crucial brace for the Bavarians on Wednesday night.

The England international netted the third for the hosts when he intercepted a ball and finished clinically after the hour mark.

Bayern Munich next opponents

Bayern Munich will travel to Limassol Stadium in Limassol in Cyprus for their second Uefa Champions League 2025/26 League Phase match against Pafos on Tuesday 30 September, 2025 at 20:00 (WAT).

For now, Kompany will gear up for the Bundesliga match against TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday 20 September, 2025 at 14:30 (WAT) at PreZero Arena stadium, Sinsheim city.
