Umo Eno, Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, has made known, his administration will establish the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission with the aim “to drive fair tariffs, expanded access to underserved communities”.
The Governor made the announcement when he hosted the Akwa Ibom Electricity Summit at Four Points by Sheraton, Ikot Ekpene.
The Summit pulled together leaders in the power sector from all over Nigeria and beyond to forge a “clear roadmap for reliable, affordable, and universal access to electricity”.
Eno further made known, he will “rehabilitate and commercialize” Ibom Power Company, as well as, launch the Akwa Ibom Electricity Market.
The Governor said, he is “moving from plans to actions”, and added, the projects can be achieved in “24 months”.
Making the announcement via X, Governor Eno said: “Over the past two days, we hosted the Akwa Ibom Electricity Summit at Four Points by Sheraton, Ikot Ekpene, bringing together power sector leaders from across Nigeria and beyond to chart a clear roadmap for reliable, affordable, and universal access to electricity.
“We are moving from plans to action. In the next month, we will establish the Akwa Ibom State Electricity Regulatory Commission and the State Electrification Agency to drive fair tariffs, transparent licensing, and expanded access to underserved communities.
“We’ll also rehabilitate and commercialize Ibom Power Company, launch the Akwa Ibom Electricity Market, and begin the first phase of our State Electrification Plan.
“These steps are immediate, measurable, and achievable within 24 months. By 2034, every household in Akwa Ibom will enjoy quality electricity service.
“This summit marks the start of building a model for electricity reform in Nigeria, powered by strong partnerships with the private sector, federal agencies, investors, and our people.”
