Bayer Leverkusen comfortably beat Frankfurt 3-1 after Ten Hag sacking

Bayer Leverkusen clinched their first victory in the Bundesliga 2025/25 with ease following the sacking of former Manchester United Dutch manager, Erik Ten Hag.

New Head Coach, Kasper Hjulmand, guided the Black and Reds to a comfortable 3-1 triumph over Eintracht Frankfurt in the top flight encounter on Friday 12 September, 2025 at BayArena despite playing with two (2) men down.

On the appointment of Hjulmand, Bayer Leverkusen announced via its official website:

Kasper Hjulmand is the new head coach at Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Bayer 04 have signed the Dane, who has a contract to 30 June 2027, as the successor to Erik ten Hag.
“We are delighted to have brought in Kasper Hjulmand, whose work we have followed closely over a long period of time,” explained Bayer 04 managing director sport Simon Rolfes.

Alejandro Grimaldo opened scoring for Bayer Leverkusen in the 10th minute, and Czech striker, Patrick Schick, added the second in the 4th minute of first half additional time.

Through C. Uzun in the 52nd minute, Frankfurt pulled one back, however, it was not inspiring enough to provoke a comeback for the visitors.

Despite losing two (2) men, who were sent off after double yellow cards for each, the hosts sealed victory with the third in the 8th minute of additional time through Grimaldo.

It was new manager, Hjulmand, first win with Bayer Leverkusen.

In his post-Frankfurt comments, Hjulmand said on Bayer’s official X account: “We are really happy with the three points! What a great stadium we have with great energy. Thanks to the and for that!”
