National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Bolaji Abdullahi, has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the National Orientation Agency (NOA), to “Stop the Naira Abuse”.
Abdullahi’s statement is coming after President Tinubu rewarded the Super Falcons and D’Tigress in the American legal tender, the Dollar, instead of the Naira, “Nigeria’s Sovereign Currency”.
The President handed a huge reward of $100,000 to players of Super Falcons and D’Tigress each; $50,000 to the coaches of both teams; flat and national honours to every member of both teams.
Abdullahi, however, expressed his gratitude to the President for “amply rewarding” both teams; he described the manner in which the cash reward was presented as “strange”.
The Super Falcons won their 10th WAFCON title on Saturday 26 July, 2025 in Morocco; and the D’Tigress won their 7th AfroBasket title on Sunday 3 August, 2025 in Cote D’Ivoire.
Bolaji Abdullahi wrote on X: “We thank President BAT for amply rewarding our victorious Falcons and D’Tigress. But we find it strange that the President has repeatedly shown his disregard for the Nigerian sovereign currency by announcing the awards in US Dollars. Mr. President sir, NOA says, Stop the Naira Abuse.”
