Teenager sentenced to seven years for shooting Colombian Senator

A boy, fifteen (15) years of age, has been sentenced to juvenile detention for seven (7) years for shooting Miguel Uribe Turbay, Colombian Presidential hopeful, at a rally in Bogotá in June.

39-year old Turbay, Conservative Senator, underwent several surgeries after being struck by three (3) bullets, however, passed on 11 August.

The 15-year old was charged with attempted murder and the illegal possession of firearms.

The shooting stunned Colombians after years of heightening peace.

In connection to the attack, Five (5) others have been apprehended and charged.

The Senator was shot in the head at a campaign rally on 7 June, with unconfirmed video of the assassination widely spread online.

Uribe was a famous member of the right-wing Democratic Centre party, and had been fighting for his party’s nomination for the 2026 presidential election.
