President Tinubu targets over $1bn in trade and investment at TICAD9 in Japan

Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, travelled to Japan with the aim to unlock “$1billion+” in trade and investment as Nigeria positions itself as the “heart and gateway” to the vast market of West Africa.

The President made the statement as he participates in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9) in Yokohama, Japan.

The Summit which commenced on Wednesday 20 August is scheduled to conclude on Friday 22 August, 2025.

The Nigerian Leader described the TICAD 9 as “launchpad”, saying, it will bring about “lasting development & global partnership, anchored on technology”.

President Tinubu posted on X: “At #TICAD9, themed “Co-create innovative solutions with Africa”, Nigeria comes with clarity of purpose.

“Our participation aims to unlock $1Billion+ in trade & investment, drive green innovation & industrial growth, expand opportunities for our youth, and position Nigeria as the heart and gateway to West Africa’s vast market.

“This summit is our launchpad for lasting development & global partnership, anchored on technology, talent & trust.

“Nigeria will lead, and Africa will rise.”
