The First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu has officially commissioned the Lagos State Industrial Leather Hub on Saturday 23 August, 2025.
The Governor said, the facility was named after the First Lady in honour of her “lifelong dedication to social investment and empowerment.”
The Hub, located in Matori, Mushin, will generate “over $250 million” in export earnings yearly, create “10,000” direct jobs, and will be beneficial to over “150,000” artisans across the Southwestern State.
The Governor said, the raw materials (hides and skins), will no longer leave the country “unprocessed” and will be converted into shoes, bags and more, with the stamp ‘Made in Lagos, Made in Nigeria’.
Via X, Governor Sanwo-Olu made known: “Today, the new leather processing and manufacturing hub in Mushin was commissioned by the First Lady, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, whose work in empowering women and communities has inspired so many of us. To honour her lifelong dedication to social investment and empowerment, we have named the facility after her. In that spirit, 70 percent of the jobs here are reserved for women and young people.
“This factory will create 10,000 direct jobs and benefit more than 150,000 artisans across Lagos. It is equipped to produce shoes, bags, belts, and other products at a scale that small businesses could not achieve on their own.
“Our hides and skins will no longer leave Nigeria unprocessed. They will be transformed here into shoes, bags, belts, and garments proudly stamped ‘Made in Lagos, Made in Nigeria’. With time, this hub is expected to generate over $250 million in export earnings every year.”
Sanwo-Olu said, in Lagos, the focus is to fulfil promises that “uplift households and strengthen the economy.”
Governor Sanwo-Olu further posted: “But for me, the true success will be measured by the cobbler in Mushin who earns more for his craft, the tanner in Oko-Oba who now has steady work, and the young designer in Yaba who can finally take her brand to the world.
“This is the promise of Lagos, the promise of opportunities that uplift households and strengthen our economy.”
