The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has recovered he locomotive and coach from the Abuja-Kaduna train derailment site.
This was announced via a Press Release titled ‘NRC recovers locomotive and coach as recovery efforts progress at accident site’, signed by Kayode Opeifa, Managing Director (MD), NRC, on Thursday 28 August, 2025.
More than ten (10) passengers sustained injuries in the Abuja-Kaduna train accident which happened on Tuesday 26 August, 2025.
The Press Release reads: The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), Dr. Kayode Opeifa, on Wednesday 27th August, 2025, returned to the site of the train accident on Tuesday 26th August, 2025, to personally oversee ongoing recovery operations alongside NRC recovery engineers.
“During the exercise, the recovery team successfully retreived one of the derailed passenger coaches, in addition to the locomotive earlier recovered on the day of the incident.
“Dr. Opeifa commended the engineers for their professionalism, resilience and swift response in handling the situation.
“The Managing Director also expressed appreciation to the security agencies deployed to the site for ensuring that the recovery process was carried out smoothly, safely and without disruption. He equally acknowledged the media as a vital partner, extending gratitude for their continued support during the challenging period.
“Dr. Opeifa emphasized that the dissemination of credible and factual information is crucial to help Nigerians better understand the true situation and the progress being made.
“The NRX wishes to reassure its esteemed passengers and the general public that every necessary measure is being taken to restore train operations in the shortest possible time. Passenger safety and service reliability remain the Corporation’s top priorities.”
