More than 5,000 Lagosians graduate from State’s skill acquisition programme

On Thursday 7 August, 2025, over “5,300” Lagosians graduated from the State’s skill acquisition programme, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Executive Governor of Lagos, announced via X.

The graduands now possess practical skills in several areas such as: fashion design, carpentry, cosmetology and more as they move ahead towards independence.

The Governor reminded them to couple their skills with “discipline and perseverance” as he expressed his administration’s commitment to “creating opportunities”, as well as, investing in programmes such as this.

Governor Sanwo-Olu announced: “Over 5,300 Lagosians graduated from our State’s skill acquisition programme.

“This achievement marks the beginning of a new chapter for the graduates. They now hold practical skills in areas such as fashion design, welding, carpentry, cosmetology, and more. They’ve put in the work, and now they’re equipped to take the next step toward independence.

“But as I reminded them, skill alone is not enough. Discipline, perseverance, and integrity are just as important. These qualities will shape how far they go and how well they sustain what they’ve built.

“Our administration is committed to creating opportunities, and we will continue to invest in programmes like this. But the real value lies in how these opportunities are used. Some graduates will start small businesses, while others will expand what they’ve already begun. Each one now has the tools and the responsibility to create something meaningful for themselves and for others.

“The journey ahead won’t always be easy, but I believe in their potential. Many global businesses began with a single skill and a clear purpose. There is no reason our own success stories can’t start right here in Lagos.

“I congratulate all the graduates. Make this count, not just for today, but for the future you’re building.”
