The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented Certificates of Return to winners of the 2025 bye-elections conducted on Saturday 16 August, 2025.
Nigeria’s Electoral Body said, it will issue sealed Certificates of Return in a prescribed form to every candidate returned by the Returning Officer within fourteen (14) days.
According to INEC: “Following the conclusion of the bye-elections held on August 16, 2025, and in accordance with Section 71(1) of the Electoral Act, sealed Certificates of Return in a prescribed form shall be issued within 14 days to every candidate returned by the Returning Officer.
“In line with this provision, the National Commissioner overseeing each relevant geopolitical zone today presented Certificates of Return to seven (7) candidates who emerged victorious in the elections. These include:
“Two (2) Senatorial Districts:
• Anambra South
• Edo Central
Five (5) Federal Constituencies:
• One each in the states of Edo, Jigawa, Kaduna, Ogun and Oyo”
The 2025 bye-elections, conducted in 16 Constituencies across 12 States, produced the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner in twelve (12) constituencies; the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in two (2); PDP and NNPP in one (1) each.
