On Friday 29 August, 2025, Umo Eno, Executive of Akwa Ibom State, received the Unity Torch ahead of the Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival.
The Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival is scheduled to kick off on September 8 and conclude on September 13, 2025.
The event is a “platform to discover talents and build the next generation of sports stars.”
The Governor disclosed, he has approved the purchase of modern sports equipment, as well as, the establishment of the Ibom Sports Academy in Eket to provide “world-class” training to the South-South State’s young talents.
Carrying the Torch across the State, Eno believes Sports is a “unifier”, and it drives “youth development and tourism”.
Via X, Governor Eno said: “Today, I received the Unity Torch ahead of the Akwa Ibom State Sports Festival, which will hold from September 8–13, 2025. This festival is more than a competition; it is a platform to discover talents, empower our youths, and build the next generation of sports stars.
“We have approved the purchase of modern sports equipment, and are establishing the Ibom Sports Academy in Eket to give our young athletes world-class training and opportunities.
“Sports is a unifier and a driver of youth development, tourism, and economic growth. As we carry this torch across our state, let it remind us of our collective strength, unity, and the boundless potential of Akwa Ibom youths.”
