First deportees from the US arrive in Rwanda

Seven (7) deported migrants from the United States (US) have arrived in Rwanda.

The seven are the first of the 250 expected to be received by the African country following an agreement struck with the adminstration of President Donald Trump.

Yolande Makolo, Spox of the government of Rwanda, said, “the first group of seven vetted migrants arrived in Rwanda in mid-August.”

Makolo released no details about their nationalities, she only explained that four of them would stay in Rwanda, with three choosing to find their ways back to their home countries.

Right Groups have warned that, such deportations could go against International law if people are sent to countries where they risk all kind of abuses including torture.

So far, more than ten (10) countries have accepted to receive deported migrants from other countries.

The administration of President Trump has made it clear from the get-go, it will deport illegal migrants from the United States (US).

Makolo said: “Regardless of their specific needs, all of these individuals will receive appropriate support and protection from the Rwandan government.”

She continued: the deported were being sheltered by “an international organisation” and would be visited by the International Organization on Migration (IOM) and Rwandan social services.

A Spox of the IOM confirmed to AFP News Agency that it had seen the migrants to “assess their basic needs”, however, provided no further details.
