At the Federal Executive Council (FEC) Meeting chaired over by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Wednesday, a seven-year moratorium was approved on the establishment of new federal tertiary institutions.
The move will allow the government to focus on “revitalising” existing facilities.
At the meeting, the power sector also received a “boost” with grid modernisation projects approved, as well as, new high-capacity transformers.
President Tinubu swore in Professor Dakas C. J. Dakas as Chairman of the Nigeria Law Reform Commission at the meeting.
According to the official X account of the Vice President, Kashim Shettima: “Vice President @KashimSM participated in the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting chaired by President @officialABAT at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
“The meeting approved a seven‑year moratorium on the establishment of new federal tertiary institutions, allowing the government to focus on revitalising existing facilities. Power infrastructure also received a boost, with approvals for grid modernisation projects and new high‑capacity transformers – steps critical to improving electricity supply across the country.
“President @officialABAT also swore in Professor Dakas C. J. Dakas as Chairman of the Nigeria Law Reform Commission, alongside Dr. Uchenna Eugene as Federal Commissioner. A minute of silence was observed in honour of the late Chief Audu Ogbeh.”
