Equatorial Guinea President’s nephew, Baltasar Engonga, sentenced to eight years in prison

Equatorial Guinea President Teodoro Obiang Nguema’s nephew, who was embroiled in a sex tape scandal in 2024, has bagged an eight-year jail sentence for embezzlement.

Former head of the National Financial Investigation Agency, Baltasar Ebang Engonga, diverted funds for personal use, as ruled by a Court.

Engonga, married, amassed some fame last year, when he was seen in some leaked videos having sex with different women – many of them wives and relatives of people who hold government positions.

He was found guilty alongside five (5) other officials who allegedly claimed the money as a travel allowance – the amounts ranged between $9,000 (£6,600) and $220,000.

The videos leaked while Engonga was in detention, accused of depositing a huge sum of money embezzled into clandestine accounts in the Cayman Islands.
