‘China and India should act as major global powers and expand cooperation’ – Wang Yi

China’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, said, China and India “two largest developing countries” are suppose to “act as major global powers”, as well as, show a “sense of global responsibility”.

The Chinese FM made the statement ahead of the the 80th anniversary of the United Nations (UN).

According to un.org:

On 24 October 1945, the UN officially came into existence. Four years of planning and the hope of many years had materialized in an international organization designed to end war and promote peace, justice, and better living for all humankind.

Yi said, both countries with a “combined population of more than 2.8 billion” should be “confident, remove disturbances and expand cooperation”.

Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spox, Lin Jian, posted on X: “Chinese FM Wang Yi: In today’s world, changes unseen in a century are accelerating, unilateral bullying practices are rampant, and free trade and the international order face severe challenges.

“As the UN marks its 80th anniversary, humanity stands a critical crossroads determining the future direction of the world.

“As the two largest developing countries with a combined population of more than 2.8 billion, #China and #India should demonstrate a sense of global responsibility, act as major powers, set an example for developing countries in pursuing strength through unity, and contribute to promoting world multipolarization and the democratization of international relations.

“China and India should remain confident, move in the same direction, remove disturbances, expand cooperation, and consolidate the positive momentum in China-India relations, so that the revitalization of the two great Eastern civilizations promotes mutual development and achieves shared success, providing the most needed certainty and stability to Asia and the world.”
