Portuguese footballers, Diogo Jota and André Silva, have been honoured by their family, friends and teammates at a joint funeral in Portugal.
28-year old Jota was laid to rest alongside his brother, 25-year old Silva, after they died in a car crash on Thursday in Spain.
Diogo Jota and Andre Silva fielded for Premier League club, Liverpool FC and German Bundesliga club, RB Leipzig, respectively; both players were forwards.
Locals and supporters in their hundreds converged at the Igreja Matriz in Gondomar, where the brothers hailed from, on Saturday.
The funeral also pulled together big names from across football, including Jota’s Reds teammates Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson, who were captured carrying floral tributes into the church ahead of the ceremony.
The service took place in Gondomar, a little Portuguese city near Porto, that has been in mourning after the brothers passed.
Jota and Silva died in the Spanish province of Zamora after their car, a Lamborghini, had a tyre blowout after trying to overtake another car.
The mishap happened just eleven (11) days after Jota married his long-term partner Rute Cardoso, with whom he had three children.
Family and intimate friends entered the church in total silence, many of them with their heads bowed down as the church bell rung.
