Official: Wojciech Szczęsny extends contract at Barcelona until 2027

Kings of Spain, Barcelona, and Polish goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczęsny, have reached an agreement for the extension of his deal which will keep him to the Club until 30 June 2027.

The deal is coming following a beautiful season from the goalkeeper after his surprise arrival to cover the unfortunate long term injury to Marc ter Stegen.

The Catalans needed a keeper and chose the former Poland international, who arrived out of retirement to accept the challenge after having hung up his gloves in the summer. Szczęsny responded by showing he is still one of the best goalkeepers in European Football.

In the 2024/25 season, Szczęsny recorded thirty (30) appearances for Hansi Flick’s Barcelona; kept 14 clean sheets and was never on the losing side in La Liga.

The goalkeeper’s experience and maturity was greatly essential for German coach Flick in a young and inexperienced Barça squad.

Szczęsny announced his retirement in August 2024; his time at Barça is another addition to his impressive career.

However, Barca’s call dragged him out of retirement and back to football after an admirable career and many achievements.

He left Warsaw, his hometown, at the age of 16 years old, he went ahead to field for top European sides such as Arsenal, Roma and Juventus, giving him great experience in Europe’s top leagues.
