After reaching a mutual agreement, Takehiro Tomiyasu and Premier League outfit, Arsenal, will part ways at the expiration of the defender’s contract with immediate effect.
Tomiyasu, 26 years of age, who moved to Emirates Stadium from Italian side, Bologna, in August 2021, recorded 84 appearances in all competitions during his time with the club.
The Japan international fastly balanced at right-back after his signing, clinching Arsenal’s Player Of The Month award in September 2021, a prize he received again in October 2023.
After kicking off his career at J1 League side Avispa Fukuoka, Tomiyasu moved to Belgian outfit Sint-Truiden in 2018 and collected the club’s Player Of The Season award before departing for Italy.
Featuring for his country since 2018, the defender has represented Japan 42 times and was a member of his country’s squad at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and 2022 World Cup, as well as, playing a pivotal role in his country’s progress to the quarter-finals of the AFC Asian Cup in February 2024.
Sadly, injuries have hindered Tomiyasu’s progress at Arsenal in the past two (2) seasons, with the right-back fielding just once for the Gunners as a substitute last season.
Therefore, the agreement was mutually reached to end Tomiyasu’s contract in order for him to begin a new chapter in his career.
