NNPC, NFF, NPFL to collaborate to improve Nigerian football after Super Falcons’ WAFCON triumph

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), discussed ways to collaborate to improve the “visibility, legacy, and commercial viability” of Nigerian football.

The move is coming after the Super Falcons made Nigeria proud at the just concluded Women’s Africa Cup Of Nations (WAFCON) 2024 in Morocco.

Nigeria emeregd the Champions of WAFCON for a record 10th time after a 3-2 comeback victory over host nation, Morocco, in the final in Rabat on Saturday 26 July, 2025.

The discussions held at the NNPC Towers in Abuja on Tuesday 29 July, 2025.

Musa Ahmadu Kida, Chairman of the NNPC Ltd. Board, who received the delegation, congratulated the NFF following Nigeria’s WAFCON 2024 triumph.

Making his remark, NNPC Ltd GCEO, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, made known, the Company’s commitment to “supporting initiatives that strengthen the value derived from football.”

According to the NNPC Limited: “Yesterday at the NNPC Towers in Abuja, the Board & Management of NNPC Ltd. welcomed a joint delegation from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), and its strategic partner, IMG.

“Discussions centred on finding sustainable ways of fostering collaboration to improve Nigerian football’s visibility, legacy, and commercial viability.

“Receiving the delegation, the Chairman of the NNPC Ltd. Board, Musa Ahmadu Kida, congratulated the NFF over the Super Falcons’ recent historic victory of the 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, stressing the importance of dialogue to drive sustainable impact. Also in his remarks, the GCEO, Engr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, affirmed NNPC Ltd.’s commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen the value derived from football.

“NFF President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, emphasised the goal of revitalising the football ecosystem to inspire national pride, while the IMG team made a presentation on the “Transforming Nigerian Football” project through mutual partnerships with corporate organisations.”
