Nine children among 27 dead in Texas flooding as search continues for missing girls

At least, twenty-seven (27) people, including nine (9) children have perished in flash flooding that has ravaged through Kerr County in Texas.

According to authorities, twenty-seven (27) girls are still missing after the floods destroyed a Christian summer camp located on the banks of the Guadalupe River.

Donald Trump, President of the United States (US), said his government is working closely with local authorities to respond to the emergency, adding that Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem is on her way to Texas.

Lieutenant Governor of Texas, Dan Patrick, suggested, out of the 27 children missing after flooding hit a summer camp, “many of these girls are younger girls under the age of 12”.

Patrick said, that many more people are possibly to remain unaccounted for across the area, after people had set up tents by the river to see a fireworks display on 4 July.

He said, “We don’t know about those people”, adding, his teams “expect the number of those recovered will be higher”.

The day’s weather forecast predicted some instances of flash flooding, Governor Patrick admitted.
