The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has activated its Search and Rescue Team to carry out “emergency response and provide evacuation support” following the flash floods that hit some communities in Yola, Adamawa Capital.
The Executive Governor of the Northeastern State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has extended his condolences to the families who lost loved ones and victims affected by the flood.
Fintiri disclosed, he has deployed his emergency team led by the Deputy Governor to assist in search and rescue works.
The Agency, saddled with the mission to manage disasters in Nigeria, made known, it is working in collaboration with the government of Adamawa State, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Red Cross alongside others, to save lives of victims and make available immediate medical attention.
Directoe General, NEMA, Zubaida Umar, said on X: “Following flash floods due to torrential rainfall from early hours of today that have struck some communities of Yola, including Yolde Pate, Shagari, Sabon Pegi and their environs, the National Emergency Management Agency has activated its Search and Rescue Team to coordinate emergency response and provide evacuation support.
“We are working together with the Adamawa State Government, Disaster Response Units of the Armed Forces, the State Emergency Management Agency, Nigeria Police Force, NSCDC and the Red Cross in saving lives of victims, providing immediate medical attention and conducting rapid needs assessment.
“All hands are on deck to ensure the safety of lives and property of residents, and critical public infrastructure in the communities.”
