Hercules scores winner as Fluminense oust Al Hilal in FIFA Club World Cup quarter finals

Brazilian side, Fluminense, have progressed into the last four of the FIFA Club World Cup after emerging victorious over Saudi Professional League side, Al Hilal, on Friday night.

At the Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida, Fluminense beat Al Hilal 2-1 to book their place in the semi finals of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 on Friday 4 July, 2025.

Fluminense netted first on Friday through Matheus Martinelli in the 40th minute before Al Hilal hit back after the break when Marcus Leonardo found the net, converting defender Kalidou Koulibaly’s assist.

Susbstitute, Hercules, scored the winner in the 70th minute, and the Brazilian side held on till the end to clinch a beautiful win over Simone Inzaghi’s Al Hilal in the first meeting between the two sides.

The Saudi side exit despite a fourth tournament goal for striker Leonardo.

Al Hilal reached the quarter finals of the tournament after pulling off the tournament’s most shocking upset with a 4-3, extra-time triumph over holders, Manchester City, in the round of 16.

Fluminense clinched their quarter final spot with a 2-0 win over Italian Serie A side, Inter, in the second round.
