On Monday, Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, visited the scene of the flood disaster in the Capital, Yola, and directed that more relief materials be provided at the IDP Camp.
The flood claimed lives, with several others injured.
The Governor, who “firsthand” inspected the affected areas, made known, a team of experts is being assembled to “study the situation and recommend lasting solutions”.
He said, any structure erected on channels of natural water and hindering flow “will not be spared”, adding, his government will move “decisively” to ensure protection of lives and prevention of future occurrences.
Governor Fintiri said on X: “Upon arriving in Yola, I drove straight to the scene of the flood disaster. I walked through affected homes, inspecting firsthand what could be the underlying causes.
“I have directed that more relief materials be made available at the IDP camp and prayed for the peaceful repose of those who lost their lives. We are also assembling a team of experts to study the situation and recommend lasting solutions.
“Let me be clear: any structure—no matter how big or small—built on natural water channels and obstructing the flow will not be spared. We must act decisively to protect lives and prevent future tragedies.”
