‘Buhari’s demise a loss to Nigeria and Africa’ – Kenya President Ruto

President of Kenya, William Ruto, has extended his “heartfelt condolences” to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the people of Nigeria following the passing of former President, Muhammadu Buhari.

After suffering a prolonged illness, former Head of State, Buhari, passed in a clinic in London on Sunday 13 July, 2025.

President William Ruto wrote via X:

“Your Excellency and Dear Brother,

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,

“On behalf of the Government and People of the Republic of Kenya, I extend our deepest and heartfelt condolences to Your Excellency, the Government and the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria upon the passing of H.E. President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“President Buhari demise is a loss not only to the people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria but also to the entire African Continent, which has been immeasurably enriched by his wisdom and steadfast commitment to the liberation and prosperity of the Nigerian people.

“During his tenure in office, President Buhari championed the fight against corruption, advanced regional security initiatives to counter terrorism, and supported Africa’s agenda for economic integration.

“Kenya recalls with warmth his State Visit to Nairobi on January 2016, which marked a significant milestone in our bilateral relations.

“We also remember with sincere appreciation his message of congratulations in August 2022, following my election as President of Kenya, a testament to his abiding faith in democratic governance and to the enduring relations between Kenya and Nigeria.

“In this time of grief, Kenya stands in solidarity with the Government and People of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. May the legacy of President Buhari continue to inspire all of us in our pursuit of peace, dignity, and shared prosperity across Africa.

“Please accept, Your Excellency and Dear Brother, my sincere condolences and the assurances of my highest esteem.”

President of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio, wrote on X:

“I am deeply saddened to hear about the passing of President Muhammadu Buhari, the former president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“On behalf of the people of the Republic of Sierra Leone, I want to express our heartfelt condolences to his family, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, @officialABAT, and to the people of Nigeria during this incredibly difficult time. This is truly a devastating loss, and our thoughts are with you all.@MBuhari “

Former Nigeria Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, wrote on X:

“Nigeria has lost a true patriot, a man whose life was marked by unyielding devotion to the nation he loved. President Buhari’s legacy will endure as a testament to the nobility of public service, defined by honesty, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to the public good.
