Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) has extended his “heartfelt condolences” to Muhammadu Buhari’s family, the Government & the people of Nigeria following the passing of the former President of Nigeria.
The UN Chief, who expressed “deep sadness”, said, the former Head of State was very helpful in ensuring “regional peace and security”; also, the former Minister of Petroleum advocated for “multilateral & regional cooperation”.
In his tribute to Buhari, Guterres wrote on X: “Deeply saddened by passing of former President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.
“He played a key role for regional peace & security & was a strong advocate for multilateral & regional cooperation.
“My heartfelt condolences to his family, the Government & the people of Nigeria.”
Buhari was laid to rest at his residence in Daura, Katsina State on Tuesday 15 July, 2025.
