Executive Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia, announced, his administration launched the Benue State Civil Protection Guards to “strengthen community policing”, as well as, “deepen collaboration with conventional security agencies”.
This coming following killings in the State.
The Governor said, the North Central State has made “deliberate investment” in law enforcement, which include, purchase of combat-ready motorcycles and operational vehicles.
Alia made the disclosure while addressing security experts, policy stakeholders, at the North-Central Security Summit in Makurdi, Benue State Capital.
Governor Alia said on X: “I had the honour of addressing distinguished leaders, security experts, legal practitioners, and policy stakeholders at the North-Central Security Summit, organized by the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Makurdi.
“Under the theme “Strengthening Security, Rule of Law, and Justice Delivery in North-Central Nigeria”, the summit is a clarion call for bold and collective action to confront the realities of insecurity, injustice, and systemic failures in our region.
“Since assuming office on May 29, 2023, our administration has prioritized security, functional education, agricultural revolution, infrastructural transformation, and job creation.
“We have made deliberate investments in law enforcement, including the purchase of operational vehicles & combat-ready motorcycles, & have launched the Benue State Civil Protection Guards to strengthen community policing & deepen collaboration with conventional security agencies.
“Our efforts are beginning to yield results, but we are not resting. We remain committed to the full resettlement of our displaced people.
“We firmly believe that only by upholding the rule of law, ensuring fairness and justice, and fostering true dialogue across all sectors that we can secure lasting peace.
“May God bless our deliberations and guide us on this journey toward peace and justice for our people.”
