President of the United States (US), Donald Trump, announced, his administration has terminated all discussions on trade with its northern neighbour, Canada, and it takes effect immediately.
The US President’s announcement is coming after Canada, “a very difficult country to trade with”, announced, “they are putting a Digital Services Tax on our American Technology Companies”.
Trump said, Canada’s latest move is a “direct and blatant attack” on the United States (US).
The 47th US President said, what Canada has done is synonymous with what the European Union (EU) has done to America.
He said, his government will let Canada know the tariff that they will be paying to do business with America in seven (7) days time.
Taking to Truth Social, President Trump said: “We have just been informed that Canada, a very difficult Country to TRADE with, including the fact that they have charged our Farmers as much as 400% Tariffs, for years, on Dairy Products, has just announced that they are putting a Digital Services Tax on our American Technology Companies, which is a direct and blatant attack on our Country.
“They are obviously copying the European Union, which has done the same thing, and is currently under discussion with us, also. Based on this egregious Tax, we are hereby terminating ALL discussions on Trade with Canada, effective immediately.
“We will let Canada know the Tariff that they will be paying to do business with the United States of America within the next seven day period. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
President Trump’s announcement was the latest swerve in the trade war he’s ignited since taking office for a second term in January.
Progress with Canada has been difficult, commencing with the U.S. president looking to the nation’s northern neighbor and severally suggesting it would the 51st State of the United States of America (USA).
Trump’s suggestion of Canada becoming the 51st State of the USA received intense backlash from Canadians.
