Tottenham Hotspur: Ange Postecoglou departs

Greek Manager, Ange Postecoglou, has parted ways with Tottenham Hotspur today, Friday 6 June, 2025, the club announced.

Following a review of performances and after a lot of reflection, Tottenham Hotspur announced that Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his managerial duties.

Postecoglou joined the Spurs from Scottish Premiership club, Celtic, in the summer of 2023 and oversaw a period of change on the pitch, bringing the Spurs to the attacking brand of football that has traditionally been associated with the Club, while writing a new chapter in the Club’s history by leading the club based in North London to Uefa Europa League 2024/25 triumph in Bilbao last month – an achievement that will live with the Club forever.

Tottenham expresses extreme grateful to Ange for his dedication and contribution during his two (2) years at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Ange will forever be remembered as only the third manager in Tottenham’s history to deliver a European trophy, alongside legendary figures Bill Nicholson and Keith Burkinshaw.

However, the Club’s Board has unanimously finalized that it is in the best interests of the Club for a change to take place.

After a strong start in the 2023/24 Premier League (PL) season, the Spurs clinched 78 points from the last 66 Premier League matches.

This ended up being the Club’s worst-ever Premier League finish last season. At times there were justifying circumstances – players suffering injuries and then a decision to prioritise our European campaign.

Whilst clinching the Uefa Europa League this season ranks as one of the Club’s greatest achievements, the Club cannot base its decision on emotions aligned to this glory.

It is essential that Tottenham are able to compete at various levels and believe a change of approach will hand the Spurs the best chance for the 2025/26 season and beyond.

This has been one of the toughest decisions Tottenham Hotspur have had to make and is not a decision that the Club have taken softly, nor one the Club have hurriedly concluded.

Tottenham Hotspur said, it just made what it believes is the right decision to give the Club the best chance of success moving forward, not the easy decision.

Postecoglu is leaving a talented, young team with a platform to build upon as the Club expressed gratitude for his services.

“Thank you Ange”, the Club wrote on X.

Tottenham Hotspur will make announcement of the appointment of a new head coach in due course.

In the final of the Uefa Europa League 2024/25, Tottenham Hotspur defeated Manchester United by a lone goal at Estadio San Mamés, Bilbao, Spain – home ground of Spanish La Liga club, Athletic Club – on Wednesday 21 May, 2025.

Brennan Johnson scored the only goal of the encounter for the Spurs.
