Nigeria’s President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has called for Unity amongst West African countries at the West Africa Economic Summit 2025 which is ongoing at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre, Abuja, Nigeria.
The Summit which started on Friday 20 June is scheduled to conclude on Saturday 21 June, 2025.
The Nigerian President said, “West Africa must unite to thrive.”
President Tinubu said, “Low trade is a symbol of low collaboration”, adding, “we must strengthen our regional value chain, invest in infrastructure, for a stronger West Africa”.
WAES 2025 is “a bold step towards a prosperous, integrated West Africa, powered by trade, innovation and our people”, President Tinubu said.
At the Summit, President Tinubu said: “Low trade is a symbol of low collaboration. We must strengthen our regional value chain, invest in infrastructure, and harmonize our policies for a stronger West Africa.”
It is time to convert potential into progress, he said.
The President said: “We must move from declarations to concrete deals. West Africa cannot afford to miss the next Industrial Revolution.
“The global economy won’t wait for West Africa to get its act together and neither should we. Rather than competing in isolation or relying on external partners, we must strengthen our regional value chains, invest in infrastructure, and coordinate our policies.
“Let us emerge from this summit with actionable outcomes; a renewed commitment to ease of doing business, enhanced intra regional trade, improved infrastructure connectivity, and innovative ideas that move our people from poverty to prosperity.
“Let us build a West Africa that is investable, competitive and resilient – one that leads with vision, responsibility and unity.”
