Executive Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, announced, his government has taken over and commenced the reconstruction of the Lagos–Ota–Abeokuta Expressway.
He said, the Expressway is “one of the most strategic economic corridors in Nigeria.”
The Governor said, the move is part of his administration’s “unwavering commitment to infrastructure renewal and regional connectivity.”
He said, despite the Expressway’s national importance, it has suffered “decades of neglect”, however, after meeting with the Federal Government, the approval was given for Ogun State to take full responsibility for the originally Federal project’s reconstruction in the best interest of the people of the Southwestern State.
Abiodun said, the reconstruction of the Expressway has been flagged off officially in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area, with a vivid plan to “deliver a world-class roadway that connects Ogun and Lagos States”.
The “critical road will serve as a gateway for commerce, industry, and daily commuting”, he said.
Governor Abiodun made known via his official X account: “As part of our unwavering commitment to infrastructure renewal and regional connectivity, we have taken over and commenced the reconstruction of the Lagos–Ota–Abeokuta Expressway—one of the most strategic economic corridors in Nigeria.
“This critical road, which had suffered decades of neglect despite its national importance, was originally a federal project.
“However, through our engagement with the Federal Government, we secured approval to assume full responsibility for its reconstruction in the best interest of our people.
“We officially flagged off the project in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area, with a clear plan to deliver a world-class roadway that connects Ogun and Lagos States and serves as a gateway for commerce, industry, and daily commuting.
“To ensure rapid execution, we have deployed five competent contractors to work simultaneously across various sections—Ota/Ifo, Papalanto, Itori/Ewekoro, Abeokuta, and palliative segments to ease movement during construction.
“We have also set an 18-month completion timeline and have already begun laying asphalt on completed portions, marking visible progress on the corridor.”
Abiodun continued, the Expressway will ameliorate “road safety, travel time and foster deeper socio-economic ties between Ogun and Lagos.”
Governor further made known: “We recognize the hardship our people have endured on this road over the years, and that is why we are determined to deliver a durable and sustainable solution.
“Beyond improving travel time and road safety, this project will boost trade, support local economies, and foster deeper socio-economic ties between Ogun and Lagos.
“This is more than a road project—it is a promise kept, and another testament to our vision of building a more connected and prosperous Ogun State.”
