Official: Newcastle United sign winger Antonio Cordero from Málaga

English Premier League club, Newcastle United, will sign promising Spanish winger Antonio Cordero on 1st July following the expiration of his contract with Spanish side Málaga.

The transfer is subject to completion of the process of registration with the Premier League and the Football Association, as well as obtaining a UK visa.

Antonito, who is eighteen (18) years of age, has recorded sixty (60) senior appearances in all competitions for Sergio Pellicer’s Málaga, scoring seven (7) goals and nine (9) assists.

Cordero, Spain Under-19 international, is expected to head out on loan this summer after sealing his move to St. James’ Park.

Antonio Cordero said: “It’s truly an honour to be here, truly a pleasure. I am a person who likes to aspire high. Why not come to one of the best places in the world to do it.”

Born in Jerez de la Frontera in Andalusia, Antonio had youth periods with clubs including Cádiz, Sevilla, Real Betis and Malaga before putting pen to paper for his first professional deal with the latter in 2022.

Cordero added: “It’s a big step, and that’s one of the reasons I’m here. I’m happy to do it and have a great desire to get going already.”

He netted his first senior goal for Málaga in suspenseful circumstances in June 2024, scoring a last-minute leveller in a play-off final second leg against Gimnàstic to clinch promotion to the Segunda División.

Mitchell, Newcastle Chief, expressed the Club’s delight in bringing Cordero to St. James’ Park despite the player having interest from clubs in Spain and across Europe.

Paul Mitchell, Sporting Director of Newcastle United, said: “Antonio is an exciting talent. We’re delighted to bring him to Newcastle United amidst interest in Spain and across Europe.”

He said, Cordero possesses ample “potential”, adding, the Magpies will find a loan deal that will help the Spaniard develop.

“He has lots of potential, and the next phase of his development will be for the club to select a loan move that will challenge him and build on his experiences.”

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United clinched a spot in the Uefa Champions League 2025/26 after finishing fifth in the Premier League 2024/25 with sixty-six (66) points.

A total of six (6) Pier League clubs will feature in next season’s Uefa Champions League including Tottenham Hotspur who won the Uefa Europa League 2024/25.

Ange Postecoglou’s Tottneham Hotspur defeated Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United, by a lone goal in the final of the Uefa Europa League 2024/25 at Estadio San Mamés, Bilbao – Spanish La Liga club, Athletic Club, home ground – on Wednesday 21 May, 2025.
