‘Not an easy match but we deserved to win’ – Enrique after PSG’s 2-0 win over Seattle Sounders in FIFA Club World Cup

Spanish head coach, Luis Enrique, has said, the clash against Major League Soccer (MLS) club, Seattle Sounders, was a difficult match, however, added, the Les Parisiens “deserved to win”.

The Spaniard said, “It’s not easy to play this type of match, but, we were better than them and deserved to win this game.”

PSG defeated Seattle Sounders 2-0 in their last Group B game of the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 right inside the Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington DC, on Monday.

The Les Parisiens goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma, also admitted, the showdown against the Americam side was not easy, saying, it is almost like the game against Brazilian club, Botafogo, who shocked the French side with a lone goal win.

Enrique complained of the condition of the pitch, saying, it is not the same as the European pitches his side are used to.

Paris Saint-Germaine (PSG) will slug it out with another Major League Soccer (MLS) side, Inter Miami, in the round of 16 of the tournament; the treble Winners scaled through into the knockout stage of competition with Botafogo.

Post-victory comments from Enrique and Donnarumma after PSG progressed

According to PSG official website:

Luis Enrique (Manager): “I’m pleased, of course. It’s not easy to play this type of match. The condition of the pitch isn’t the same as what we are used to in Europe. We have to know how to manage that and the pace, but I think we were better than them and deserved to win this game.

“This is a competition where you have to be ready to go to Atlanta, Philadelphia or even elsewhere. We plan to go as far as possible and I believe the players are ready.

“The real competition starts now, and it will be very tough. After each match, we have to see if we qualify or not. We’re motivated!”

Gianluigi Donnarumma (Goalkeeper): “We knew Seattle would play with a lot of intensity. They have quality players, so it wasn’t an easy match, just like against Botafogo.

“But today’s victory is important, to finish top of the group and advance to the Round of 16, because our goal is always to qualify all the way to the final. Here, it was the same as in European stadiums, so it’s easier for us.

“But honestly, every stadium we’ve played in so far in the United States has been fantastic. It’s a pleasure to play here. I hope we keep winning more matches and that we’ll reach the final together, all united. It’s very important for us and the club to go all the way.”
