Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, 2023 Presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has called for a “decisive and people-centered approach to security” in Nigeria.
The former Vice President’s call is coming following the “violent attacks and explosions” that happened in Borno, Plateau, Kano, and Kebbi States where “over 50 lives were lost”.
These unfortunate occurrences are happening following the violent attacks that occurred in Yelewata Community in Benue State where more than 100 people lost their lives, with several property destroyed.
Atiku tagged this recent ugly happenings “are a devastating blow to our collective conscience as a nation”, and said, they are “real stories of shattered families and stolen dreams”.
He said, we must refuse to see this magnitude of “bloodshed” in Nigeria as normal; he added, the approach the country needs to deal “decisively” with these problems must be “one that prioritizes human life above all else”.
In his reaction to the security problems in Nigeria, via his official X account, Atiku said: “The heartbreaking reports from Borno, Plateau, Kano, and Kebbi where over 50 lives were lost in violent attacks and explosions are a devastating blow to our collective conscience as a nation.
“My deepest sympathies go to the bereaved families and the affected communities. These tragedies are not mere statistics they are real stories of shattered families and stolen dreams.
“We cannot continue to normalize this scale of bloodshed. Nigeria urgently needs a decisive, people-centered approach to security, one that prioritizes human life above all else.
“May the departed rest in peace.”
