‘Nigeria is a multi party State of one serious Party and other mushroom Parties’ – Bwala

Special Adviser to President Tinubu on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, said, Nigeria is not a one-party State, and is “not drifting towards a one party state”.

Bwala made the statement following mixed reactions over defections from opostion political Parties to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Governors of Delta State and Akwa Ibom State, Sheriff Oborevwori and Umo Eno respectively, both formerly under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), defected to the APC, with both saying, they made their decisions in the best interest of their States.

Bwala clarified, Nigeria is a “multiparty State”, just that it comprises of “one strong and serious Party and other mushroom Parties”.

President Bola Tinubu has also said, the governing APC has no plans to turn Nigeria into a one-party State, saying, the “system is not suitable for democracy”, however added, “you don’t expect people to remain in a sinking ship without a life jacket”.

Bwala wrote: “Nigeria is not drifting towards a one party state. Nigeria is a multiparty state of one strong and serious party AND other mushroom parties.”
