Federal Government has made a whopping donation of ₦2 billion and twenty (20) trucks of grains to support the victims following the “devastating flood” that recently swept through the Mokwa community in Niger State “leaving a trail of destruction”.
Vice President, Kashim Shettima, who represented President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, assured the people of Mokwa of the Federal Government’s support, promising “immediate Federal Government intervention, along with a renewed commitment to sustainable disaster management policies nationwide”.
The Vice President was received by Deputy Governor of Niger State, Yakubu Garba; the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH Yahaya Abubakar; and members of the Niger State Executive Council.
More than two hundred (200) lives were lost in the disaster, with houses, farmlands, schools ravaged completely.
According to Kashim Shettima: “Vice President @KashimSM has assured the people of Mokwa that the Federal Government will stand by them in the aftermath of the devastating floods that recently swept through the community, leaving a trail of destruction.
“He promised the affected residents immediate Federal Government intervention, along with a renewed commitment to sustainable disaster management policies nationwide.
“VP @KashimSM, who represented President @officialABAT, spoke on Wednesday during his visit to the flood-hit community, where the Federal Government donated ₦2 billion and twenty trucks of grains to support the victims.
“The Vice President arrived in the community at about 12:30 p.m., where he was received by the Deputy Governor of Niger State, Yakubu Garba; the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH Yahaya Abubakar; and members of the Niger State Executive Council.
“Senator @KashimSM expressed regret over the tragedy, stating that what happened in Mokwa is a sorrow that has touched every stretch of the nation.”
Earlier, President Tinubu assured no Nigerian affected by the flooding in Mokwa Community “will be left behind or unheard of.”
The President extended his “heartfelt condolences” to the affected families and the good people of Niger State at this difficult time, saying, he received with “deep concern the distressing reports” of the flooding in the North Central State which led to “the tragic loss of lives and the displacement of families.”
2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, who extended his “heartfelt condolences” to the people and government of Niger State following the unfortunate incident said, “about 1,000 persons still missing and more than 3,000 persons displaced from their homes, and several homes destroyed”.
The former Governor of Anambra State urged that we all “must come together to care, comfort and stand together, especially in times of grief and difficulty”.
