Minnesota Sh*oting: Man suspected of killing lawmakers arrested

A man, 57 years of age, has been arrested in the US state of Minnesota after being suspected of killing a Democratic state lawmaker and her husband.

The arrest, which happened on Sunday night, was the consummation of a big two-day chase following the deaths of Melissa Hortman, a Minnesota Democrat, and her husband Mark. State Governor Tim Walz called it a “politically motivated assassination”.

According to Police, Vance Luther Boelter was armed at the time of his apprehension in a rural area west of Minneapolis, however, gave himself up peacefully when challenged.

Boelter is also alleged to have shot and wounded John Hoffman, Democratic State Senator, and his wife Yvette, who are both now awake in hospital.

On Sunday, Mrs Hoffman said, that both felt “incredibly lucky to be alive”.

The suspect was detained after investigators discovered a car he allegedly used in Sibley County, about 50 miles (80km) from the murder scene in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.

Described as as the largest manhunt in Minnesota’s history, Air and SWAT teams were deployed to arrest the suspect.

During Boelter’s arrest, no Police officers were injured, and officials, disclosed, they were not looking for any other suspects.
