The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has commissioned thirty-one (31) new gunboats in Lagos State.
The gunboats will help boost the Nigeria Police Marine Unit’s capacity in combating crime and securing waterways.
IGP Egbetokun described the move “as a strategic step to tackle maritime threats”, adding, it will also help improve patrol and rescue operations.
The event was attended by top officers of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and Maritime stakeholders.
According to NPF: “IGP Kayode Egbetokun Ph.D, NPM, today, June 5, 2025, commissioned 31 new gunboats in Lagos State to boost the Nigeria Police Marine Unit’s capacity in combating crime and securing waterways.
“The IGP described the move as a strategic step to tackle maritime threats and enhance patrol and rescue operations.

“Top police officers, maritime stakeholders, and agency reps were in attendance.”
