He said, by September, his government will have completed and fully equipped 260 Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres across all wards.

Taking to his official X account to announce Enugu State’s efforts towards aligning with the Free To Shine Campaign by the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, Governor Mbah said: “In Enugu, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu flagged off the Free to Shine Triple Elimination Campaign in the South East. This campaign is a bold and timely initiative by the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development and global partners to eradicate HIV/AIDS, Syphilis and Hepatitis by 2030.
“As the First Lady rightly noted, Nigeria bears the highest burden of HIV infection in sub-Saharan Africa, making this intervention not just necessary but urgent.
“Here in Enugu State, we have aligned our healthcare priorities with the vision of the Free to Shine Campaign. By September, we will have completed and fully equipped 260 Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres across all wards. Each PHC will have accommodation for health workers to guarantee round-the-clock care.
“We have strengthened our secondary and tertiary healthcare systems, expanded access to health insurance and emergency services, especially for our most vulnerable. These efforts are already yielding results with significant reductions in maternal and infant mortality.
“But we know the work is not done. No health system can thrive in isolation or assume it no longer needs support. That is why we fully embrace the goals of the Free to Shine Campaign. These are goals that seek to eliminate stigma, expand access to treatment, and end mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
“I commend my dear wife, Mrs Nkechinyere Mbah, for her passion and support for this campaign. As she stated so clearly, collaboration is the driving force of change and development.
“On behalf of the government and good people of Enugu State, I thank the First Lady for choosing Enugu to complete this important national rollout. Her message of hope is deeply appreciated.”
