FIFA Club World Cup 2025: Manchester City confirms Kovacic will miss competition due to Achilles injury

Premier League club, Manchester City, has confirmed that, Mateo Kovacic has undergone surgery on an Achilles injury.

The Croatian midfielder is now set to be missing in action in the FIFA Club World Cup as City travel to the United States of America (USA) in June.

Kovacic will spend the summer recovering from the operation and everyone at the Club prays him a speedy recovery.

Kovacic was missing in action in the FA Cup 2024/25 final loss to Crystal Palace through injury earlier this month.

Crystal Palace defeated Manchester City by a lone goal in the FA Cup 2024/25 final at Wembley Stadium; Eberechi Eze scored the only goal for the Eagles to help Oliver Glasner’s side lift their first ever major trophy.

He came back to field against Bournemouth in the Premier League, however, was sent off and sat out the final match of the season at Fulham.

Manchester City have now confirmed the Kovacic, 31, has required an operation. No timescale has been put on his recovery but the focus is now on the 2025/26 season.

Pep Guardiola’s Cityzens will slug it out with Moroccan side Wydad Casablanca in their first game of the FIFA Club World Cup in Philadelphia on June 18. They have further group games against Al Ain of Abu Dhabi and Juventus.
