Delta State: Governor Oborevwori holds meeting with Service Commanders to proffer solution to k*dnapping, k*llings, dr*g abuse

Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, made known, he held a meeting with Service Commanders, members of the State House of Assembly, Traditional rulers, Council Chairman, and members of the State Executive Council at the Government House, Asaba, “to proffer solutions to the menace of kidnapping, ritual killings, drug abuse, and other sundry crimes.”

At the meeting which held on Thursday 5 June, 2025, it was agreed that, “security is a shared responsibility and that all hands must be on deck.”

Oborevwori said, he directed all Local Government Area Council Chairman, to hold their security Council meeting every month “as a matter of urgency”.

Governor Oborevwori said: “Today, I held a meeting with Service Commanders, House of Assembly members, Council Chairmen, traditional rulers, and members of the State Executive Council in Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, to proffer solutions to the menace of kidnapping, ritual killings, drug abuse, and other sundry crimes.

“We agreed that security is a shared responsibility and that all hands must be on deck. At the meeting, I directed all LGA Council Chairmen, as a matter of urgency, to hold their security council meetings monthly.”

The Governor said, they concluded with various approaches to curbing the challenges, including, “empowering our local vigilante groups across the state.”

He did not hesitate to commend the various security agencies in the South-South State for their “commitment”, as well as, urged traditional rulers to collaborate.

Governor Oborevwori said: “We brainstormed various approaches to tackling the challenges, including empowering our local vigilante groups across the state.

“I commended the various security agencies for their commitment and urged collaboration with traditional rulers.

“I also solicited grassroots intelligence from our people to enable the security agencies to perform optimally.”

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, formerly under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), decamped from the ‘Umbrella’ and joined the fold of the APC.

He told the people of Delta State , his move to the ‘Broom’ Party was in the best interest of the State.

Oborevwori joined APC with immediate former Governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, alongside all PDP members of the State.

He was welcomed into the APC by the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, CON, Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, alongside APC Governors.
