To get rid of criminal activity, in a decisive move, the Delta State Government has adopted a “bumper-to-bumper” strategy to tackle insecurity across the state.

Hon. David Tonwe, Director General of Delta State Security, who recently announced the intensified rollout of Operation Delta Sweep, said the initiative targets key urban centres including Asaba, Warri, Ughelli, Abraka, and other high-risk areas to restore law and order.

Via its official X account, the Delta State Government said: “In a bold move to root out criminal activity across the State, Director General of Delta State Security, Hon. David Tonwe, has declared a ‘bumper-to-bumper’ approach in tackling insecurity. In a recent announcement, Tonwe said the aggressive scaling up of Operation Sweep, is to restore law and order in major urban centres including, Asaba, Warri, Ughelli, Abraka and others.

“Tonwe revealed that the State’s security architecture is being fortified to ensure rapid response to crimes such as kidnapping, drug-related offences, armed robbery and cult violence. “No part of Delta will be left behind in this all-out campaign for safety”, he asserted, calling on residents to stay vigilant and report suspicious activity.

“He emphasized that the fight against crime requires community efforts and pledged increased collaboration with vigilante groups, traditional rulers and local security outfits to strengthen surveillance and intelligence gathering at the grassroots.

“Addressing concerns about recent kidnapping reports, Tonwe warned against politicizing security issues. “Some of these narratives are clearly being manipulated to discredit the state government”, he said. “But let it be clear, the safety of our people is not up for negotiation.””
