Benue State K*llings: ‘I see your pain. I feel it with you’ – President Tinubu

President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured the people of Benue State, his government will not leave them behind as they face intense insecurity.

The President said, “I see your pain. I feel it with you”, and assured them, “we will not leave you behind”.

President Tinubu landed in Benue State on Wednesday 18 June, 2025, where he headed to see the victims of the “brutal” attacks in a hospital in Makurdi, Benue Capital.

He issued some directives to the people of the North Central State, traditional rulers, and the Governor, Hyacinth Alia.

He said, the people of the State alongside traditional rulers must work together with security agencies to bring back peace to the State; and advised Governor Alia to be Fatherly to everyone in the State.

After visiting and seeing the situation in Benue State firsthand, the President said, “the scale of destruction and loss is heartbreaking.”

President Tinubu promised, his government “will restore peace, rebuild, and bring the perpetrators to justice.”

He visited Benue State after rescheduling his official visit to Kaduna State; however, in his reaction to the President’s visit, Peter Obi said, it was like where the President was going for an “occasion of joy”.

The former Governor of Anambra State made the statement after watching a video revealing how School children were lined up to cheer, sing and dance as the President arrived the State, instead of mourning their fellow children who were killed in the attacks.

President Tinubu wrote on his official X account: “I was in Benue today. The scale of destruction and loss is heartbreaking.

“To the good people of Benue, I see your pain. I feel it with you. And I assure you, we will not leave you behind. We will restore peace, rebuild, and bring the perpetrators to justice. You are not alone.”

The 2023 Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) asked, “what kind of people have we become?” following the style the President arrived and was welcomed in the State.

The President went ahead to ask the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, why he has not made any arrests since the unfortunate incident occurred last Saturday as he ordered Security Chiefs to ensure that peace and security are restored to Benue State.
