Air India Plane Crash: Tata Group expresses ‘deep anguish’ in Statement following ‘tragic event’

Tata Group, Owners of Air India, has released its statement following the crash of Air India Flight 171 on Thursday 12 June, 2025.

The Group expressed its “deep anguish” after “the tragic event involving Air India Flight 171”.

London-bound Air India Plane carrying 242 people crashed in Ahmedabad, western region of India.

Tata Group prayed, “our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones, and with those who have been injured.”

According to Local Police Chief, more than 200 bodies have been recovered, however, it remains unknown whether those victims were on the plane or on the ground when the airplane crashed.

One passenger reported by Indian media to be British has survived.

Tata Group said, it will “provide ₹1 crore to the families of each person who has lost their life in this tragedy”; ₹1 crore($116,805).

Air India said, the plane was carrying 169 Indian nationals, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese nationals and one Canadian.

In its statement on Thursday 12 June 2025, signed by N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, Via its official X account, Tata Group wrote: “We are deeply anguished by the tragic event involving Air India Flight 171.

“No words can adequately express the grief we feel at this moment. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones, and with those who have been injured.

“Tata Group will provide ₹1 crore to the families of each person who has lost their life in this tragedy. We will also cover the medical expenses of those injured and ensure that they receive all necessary care and support. Additionally, we will provide support in the building up of the B J Medical’s hostel.

“We remain steadfast in standing with the affected families and communities during this unimaginable time.”

Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK), Keir Starmer, who said, there were many British nationals onboard the flight described the scene emerging of the “tragic event” as “devastating”.
