Inter head coach, Simone Inzaghi, has described his side’s 3-3 draw against Barcelona on Wednesday night as a “brilliant match”, saying, the return leg on Tuesday next week in Milan “will be a final”.
Barcelona and Inter finished 3-3 in the Uefa Champions League semi final first leg on Wednesday 30 April, 2025 at Estadi Olimpico, Spain.
Marcus Thuram scored one for the Nerazzurri and Dumfries netted a brace, while Lamine Yamal and Ferran Torres scored one each for the Catalans before a gift from goalkeeper, Yann Sommer, after hitting the back of his own net, handed Barcelona a point from the encounter.
According to inter.it, here are post-match comments from Inter camp:
Simone Inzaghi
“We’re very satisfied because we played very well. Obviously there’s a bit of regret having gone two up and having a goal ruled out but we know we played well against the best side in the world. The offside? These moments can make the difference but the lads were still fantastic, we showed lots of quality and heart. Barcelona have scored 150 goals this season, they have lots of quality but we were very organised.
“We tried to adjust a few things, but then there was Yamal. I’ve not seen a player like him for years. Going ahead again wasn’t enough, then with the passing of time their fatigue showed too and we showed great quality. We also finished the game 3-3 a few years ago when we came here. The lads felt the final embrace on Sunday and played really well. It will be a final on Tuesday, whoever wins will play another and the other will go home.
“Thuram and Dumfries are two important players who we have missed. Thuram trained yesterday after 15 days, he played really well as did Dumfries.”
Denzel Dumfries
“It was a great game, we played well after three consecutive defeats and we saw the true Inter tonight, playing with heart. We want to win, it’s all to play for in the second leg at San Siro. I am happy with the two goals, it’s been a difficult time for me because of the injury but I am back. We are a strong side and we show this every game.”
Yann Sommer
“I think this match has a lot of value, it’s a good draw. We had prepared for this type of game, with lots of pressure: we defended well, but Barcelona always create chances to score, the draw is good for us. I was also prepared, they press very high and aggressively, but we did well to defend as a unit and score three goals. The first half was very important, but the 3-3 is an important point. It will be important to play at San Siro in front of our fans, we need a great atmosphere: we will have our chances, so will Barcelona. We will see what happens.”
