Former Manchester United midfielder, Scott McTominay, inspired SSC Napoli to the Serie A trophy with his opener in the top flight match against Cagliari on Friday 23 May, 2025 at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
McTominay who left Manchester United in 2024 netted the opener for Antonio Conte’s Napoli in the 42nd minute before Belgian striker, Romelu Lukaku, sealed victory for the hosts in the 51st minute.
The Scottish midfielder’s goal was his 12th of the season for Napoli as the home victory ensured they held off Champions League finalists, Inter, to claim their fourth Serie A title.

In his post-victory comments, McTominay said: “I’m lost for words. It’s incredible you know, the sacrifice that every single player in the group has put forward to the cause.
“And the people deserve it because they’ve been behind us from day one, and for me to come and experience this is a dream.”
It was brave for McTominay to make the decision to exit Manchester United, who have so many problems piled on them; a club where he has spent almost all his life, for a new club in a new country last summer.
