Real Madrid: ‘Official Announcement – Provincial Court of Valladolid issue conviction against five individuals over r*cist abuse at Vinicius Jr’

Real Madrid C. F. confirms that the Second Section of the Provincial Court of Valladolid has today issued a conviction against the five individuals who aimed racist abuse at our player Vinicius Jr. from their seats in the José Zorrilla Stadium, during the fixture between Real Valladolid C. F. and Real Madrid C. F. on 30 December 2022.The accused have been found guilty by the court on five counts of hate speech.

The tribunal has sentenced each of the accused to one year in prison. It has also issued a special disqualification of their voting rights during that time, as well as a special disqualification from exercising an educational profession or occupation in the teaching, sporting or leisure fields for up to four years, further to issuing fines of between 1,080 and 1,620 euros. The prison sentences handed down to the defendants have been suspended, provided they do not set foot in football stadiums hosting competitive sporting events for a three-year period, and they have issued an apology and shown their remorse in a letter addressed to Vinicius Jr.

Racist abuse directed at Vinicius Jr. and other players on digital platforms has also been subject to criminal convictions. The convictions of hate crimes on this occasion represent particular acknowledgement of the offensive nature of this conduct.
