To honour Belgian player, Kevin De Bruyne’s, incredible decade of service to the Club, Manchester City will commission a special statue in celebration of the midfielder’s beautiful Etihad career.
The news was confirmed at the conclusion of Tuesday night’s penultimate Premier League clash of the 2024/25 season at home to AFC Bournemouth which marked the 33-year-old’s final appearance for the Club at the Etihad Stadium.
In the Premier League match on Tuesday 20 May, 2025, Manchester City discomfited AFC Bournemouth 3-1to clinch third on the table as they fight for a spot in next season’s Uefa Champions League.
De Bruyne will exit the club this summer after a success loaded 10 years at City, within this period, he played more than 400 games, and helped the Cityzens win 19 major trophies.
A full Etihad Stadium passionately paid their own moving salute and tributes to one of the Club’s greatest-ever players both before, during and after the Cherries showdown.
After the match against Bournemouth, De Bruyne expressed how proud and honoured he was at being afforded such a special tribute in the form of a statue.
He said: “It means I will always be part of this club. Whenever I come back with family and friends, I will be able to see myself so I will always be here.”
A special framed shirt signed by all of team-mates and staff along with a lifetime City Season Card were presented to Dr Bruyne, while a special video tribute was played on the Etihad big screen.
