The win strengthened Eddie Howe’s side’s hopes of clinching next season’s Uefa Champions League ticket.
Converting Alexander Isak’s assist, Sandro Tonali opened scoring for Newcastle United in the 24th minute, but Ruben Amorim’s Reds fought back and levelled through Alejandro Garnacho in the 37th minute.
Harvey Barnes netted a brace in the 49th and 64th minutes, and Bruno Guimarães sealed victory for the hosts in the 77th minute.
With this outcome, Newcastle United moved up to 4th with 56 points while Manchester United are 14th with 38 points.
